BUFFALO, Wyo. — A $5,000 grant from the PacifiCorp Foundation for Learning, the charitable arm of Pacific Power, will help fund the construction of a third Habitat for Humanity home in Buffalo. Buffalo
High School students and community volunteers are working in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of the Eastern Bighorns
to build the home, which will provide affordable housing for a family in need of assistance.
The PacifiCorp Foundation’s contribution will help provide materials needed for construction of the home. Pacific Power’s
regional community manager Leslie Blythe and lineman agent Tim Sullivan presented the $5,000 check to John Orwig, president
of the Buffalo chapter of Habitat for Humanity of the Eastern Bighorns. The check presentation took place on Thursday, October
6, at the site where the home will be built.
“There are many families in great need of a home and we are pleased to partner with Habitat for Humanity of the Eastern Bighorns
to help make this dream a reality for a family in Buffalo,” said Blythe. “This is a valuable program that gives students a
chance to learn a trade that can benefit them long-term, in addition to providing needed affordable housing.”
The project provides 17 students in Buffalo High School’s construction technology class, including some who are considered
at-risk, with the extraordinary experience of building a home from foundation to finish. Preparatory work for the construction
is already underway.
“We are thrilled to be able to help a family and teach important skills to students,” said Orwig. “Habitat for Humanity works
to raise money for materials and supplies the students will need to build the home, and the PacifiCorp Foundation for Learning’s
contribution will greatly assist our efforts.”
