More than one million dollars contributed to giving campaigns

SALT LAKE CITY — United Way agencies in Utah received a total of more than $278,000, including more than $213,000 contributed to United Way of Salt Lake, thanks to donations from employees of Utah Power and affiliate Interwest Mining – as well as matching contributions and additional funding from the company’s charitable arm, the PacifiCorp Foundation for Learning.

“Thanks to generous contributions from the employees of Utah Power, United Way of Salt Lake is able to continue its work to address the most critical human needs in our community,” said Deborah Bayle Nielsen, President and CEO of United Way of Salt Lake. “It’s clear that giving back to the community is important to Utah Power, its leaders and its employees.”

“United Way of Salt Lake assists many people with a variety of needs through its support of local social service agencies,” said Rich Walje, Utah Power executive vice president. “Many of our neighbors have significant struggles, and our employees have done a great job of pitching in to help.”

PacifiCorp employees and the PacifiCorp Foundation for Learning combined to give $1.2 million to employee giving campaigns throughout the electric utility’s six-state service area. PacifiCorp operates as Utah Power in Utah and Idaho, and as Pacific Power in Wyoming, Oregon, Washington and California.

In addition to matching employees’ United Way donations, the PacifiCorp Foundation also recently contributed $84,000 to key Utah health, welfare and learning programs.
