WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The PacifiCorp Foundation for Learning announced it has matched Pacific Power employees for a combined
gift of $4,650 to the United Way of Walla Walla County. In addition, Camp Fire USA Walla Walla Council received $3,500 from
the PacifiCorp Foundation for Learning for after school and summer programs.
As Pacific Power’s charitable arm, the PacifiCorp Foundation for Learning supports organizations that emphasize education.
“It’s a significant gift for us, and it will go to support agencies and services that address some of our most critical needs,”
said Liz McDevitt, executive director of the United Way of Walla Walla County.
The Camp Fire donation will help fund a program enrichment director, as well as purchase supplies for the group’s activities.
Camp Fire’s After School Camp, Super Summer in the Park and Camp Catch-the-Wind offer children a wide variety of activities
such as games, reading, homework time, swimming, bowling, library trips, museum field trips, visits to the Odd Fellows Retirement
Home, art, dancing music, science and outdoor activities. Camp Fire also helps teach kids how to handle emergencies and protect
themselves as they learn to care about themselves and others.
”We are very excited about receiving this grant and the increased enrichment opportunities that it will afford our children,”
said Karen Wolf, executive director of Camp Fire USA Walla Walla Council. The group has provided quality youth development
programming to young people since 1924.
“Education is the best prevention for many health and social ills,” said Bill Clemens, regional community manager for Pacific
Power. “These funds will aid organizations in providing quality health-related educational programs and social services for
adults, children and families in Walla Walla.”
