Wyoming nonprofits receive funding for safety, health and learning programs for youth

CASPER, Wyo. — The PacifiCorp Foundation for Learning, the charitable arm of Pacific Power, has awarded a total of more than $20,000 to nonprofit organizations throughout the state, to help support safety, health and wellness, and educational programs for youth. The contributions are part of one of four grant cycles awarded by the Foundation annually.

“This new infusion of funding will help agencies to enhance and expand their youth programs that focus on safety, health and education,” said Leslie Blythe, Pacific Power regional community manager. “Pacific Power is pleased to be able to support learning that will make a positive difference for children, families and communities.”

The following Wyoming organizations will receive contributions from the PacifiCorp Foundation for Learning’s Pacific Power Fund:

Wyoming Medical Center Foundation, Casper – Funding will help support the SAFE KIDS of Central Wyoming’s annual SAFE KIDS Day, scheduled this year for April 30 at Casper’s Washington Park. The purpose of the event is to educate children and families about safety; to prevent injury or fatality due to motor vehicle accidents, bicycle crashes, falls, water-related accidents, fires, electrical contact, home dangers, poisons, choking, sports-related injuries, skateboarding, firearms and more.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming, Riverton/Shoshoni – Funding will help support Goals for Growth in Fremont County; a program created to foster goal-setting skills in young adolescents and create opportunities for setting and achieving goals, under the guidance of an adult facilitator.

Boys and Girls Club of Washakie County, Worland – Funding will help support the Educational Enhancement Program and the PowerHour: Making Minutes Count component of Project Learn; designed to engage young people in learning, encourage them to succeed in school, and help them become lifelong learners.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Wyoming, Worland – Funding will help provide new training materials for the Educational Enhancement Program, for use in teaching safety awareness and sexual abuse prevention.

Boys & Girls Club of the Big Horns, Buffalo – Funding will help extend Project Learn, a comprehensive homework and tutoring program, throughout the summer months. Youth from Buffalo and Kaycee will participate in creative learning activities at a Summer Day Camp, designed to help youth retain learning between school years.

Evanston Child Development Center, Evanston – Funding will help enable the purchase of equipment and educational software for a computer lab for children in preschool and after-school programs.

Additionally, the PacifiCorp Foundation awarded a community capital project grant of $5,000 to aid with the restoration of the Town of Glenrock’s historic Commerce Block Building.
