PacifiCorp Foundation grants to benefit arts and education programs in Idaho

IDAHO FALLS, ID — Three Bonneville County organizations recently received a total of more than $10,000 from the PacifiCorp Foundation for Learning’s Utah Power Fund to help broaden and preserve worthwhile cultural and educational programs. The PacifiCorp Foundation, which serves as the charitable arm of Utah Power, assists organizations with projects that help further learning.

“Utah Power understands the importance of helping to broaden an appreciation for the value of arts,” said Glen Pond, Utah Power regional community manager. “The funding provided by the PacifiCorp Foundation will serve to expand and enhance arts and cultural learning programs for Idaho communities.”

Museum of Idaho was awarded a grant to assist in developing a new Children’s Discovery Room. The facility will recreate Idaho’s natural and social history in a series of interactive exhibits uniquely designed for children’s needs and learning styles. Children will be able to engage in hands-on activities which invite investigation, exploration and interaction. PacifiCorp Foundation funding will be used to develop and build essential permanent exhibits in the Children’s Discovery Room.

Idaho Falls Symphony was awarded a grant to help support the Symphony’s “Musical Ambassadors to the Schools” initiative, part of the Children and Youth Music Education Program. Small groups of instrumentalists and vocalists will visit schools in eastern Idaho to educate 4th graders on how symphony orchestra instruments work, sound, and are played; why the performers became musicians and how they selected instruments to play.

Idaho Falls Arts Council, Inc. was awarded a grant to help support two performances of the Arts Council’s Children’s Art Education Series in the Colonial Theater. Tickets for performances featuring world famous clown Jim Jackson will be available to schools for only $1 per student. 200 free tickets for low-income families will also be distributed through local social service agencies.
