Moonflower Market, a local nonprofit health food store, has joined the steady parade of businesses signing up for Utah Power’s
Blue Sky wind power program.
“Blue Sky renewable wind power fits in with our concept of being an environmentally friendly company,” said Moonflower Market’s
Lisa Horzepa. “Our market has a lot of organic foods, and we like the idea of using cleaner energy from a renewable energy
resource.
“I think Blue Sky is great, because we are a tourist-based, outdoor community,” Horzepa said. “Anything that’s supportive
of the environment is good for our town.”
Moonflower Market, located at 39 E 100 N. in Moab, has been in business since 1999, but started as a co-op 20 years earlier.
It purchases 20 blocks of Blue Sky each month.
Moonflower’s purchase has substantial environmental benefits as nearly 17 tons of carbon dioxide emissions will be avoided
each year or the equivalent of 36,000 miles of will not be driven. Buying 20 blocks of Blue Sky also is the equivalent of
planting nearly seven acres of trees.
